Rick Kaysen says he will miss his duties as Cheyenne's top elected official when his term ends in January.

The mayor says leaving the post will ''leave a huge void" in his life. Kaysen goes on to say "serving as mayor of this wonderful community, made up of super people, it's going to be hard to walk away."

Kaysen was first elected in 2008 and was re-elected to lead the state's largest city in 2012. Earlier this year he said he faced a tough decision about running for a third term, but finally decided against it.

Marian Orr was elected to the position earlier this month and will officially take over as the city's first-ever female mayor in January.

Kaysen says despite rumors to the contrary, he plans to continue living in Cheyenne. He has not ruled out running for office again in the future, but has said he doesn't have any firm plans aside from going out to breakfast with his wife on the day his term ends.

Kaysen worked in the utility industry for 26 years, starting as a meter reader in 1971  and eventually becoming President and CEO of Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power (now Black Hills Energy) prior to retiring in 2007.
