One man is dead and a woman was hospitalized following a Thursday night motorcycle crash on Interstate 80.

Mitchell Kenning, 51, of Cheyenne, died of injuries he sustained in the crash that occurred at 8:25 p.m. Thursday near mile post 335, about 19 miles east of Laramie.

According to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Kenning was eastbound on I-80 on a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with one passenger, 46-year-old Cheyenne resident Stephanie Kenning, when the motorcycle crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes of I-80.

The motorcycle was laid down, and both Mitchell and Stephanie Kenning were thrown from the motorcycle. Neither rider was wearing a helmet, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Mitchell Kenning was taken by helicopter to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries on Sunday. Stephanie Kenning was taken by ambulance, also to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where she was hospitalized.

The Patrol continues to investigate possible contributing factors in the crash. Mitchell Kenning was the 49th person who died as a result of a crash on Wyoming highways in 2016. The same time period in 2015 saw 75 such deaths.
