A 27-year-old Cheyenne man is facing felony charges after allegedly shooting a police officer in the foot.

Joseph Santiago Jacquez has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and battery-serious bodily injury, or aggravated assault and battery-bodily injury with a weapon, or interference with a peace officer-injury.

He's also charged with attempted interference with a peace officer-disarms and domestic battery-first offense.

Cheyenne police were called to a domestic disturbance at Jacquez's house around 5:20 p.m. Friday, after his wife called 911 to report that he was pushing and kicking her.

An affidavit says Jacquez's wife told the dispatcher that her husband was intoxicated and armed with a shotgun.

When officers tried to arrest Jacquez outside of his house, police say he retreated inside, pulling an officer into the home with him. Officers then entered the home and a struggle ensued.

During the scuffle, Jacquez reportedly grabbed an officer's rifle and shot another officer, Lt. Jared Keslar, in the left foot, causing an injury that required surgery.

Jacquez is currently being held in the Laramie County Jail on $100,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 5.
