The Cheyenne City Council's Public Services Committee will take public input on a proposed ordinance that calls for the creation of a Human Rights Advisory Council when it meets at noon on September 9.

The seven-member Advisory Council, which would be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council, would be tasked with developing ways to enhance the equality of opportunity for all people living, working or visiting Cheyenne.

"Discriminatory treatment is not acceptable," said Mayor Rick Kaysen. "When we speak about discriminatory treatment, we're talking about treatment for all people, not just a certain group of folks or individuals."

Mayor Kaysen says they hope to have the Advisory Council in place by early November.
