The 2017 Cheyenne Hispanic Festival is this Friday and Saturday at the Cheyenne Depot Plaza.

Spokeswoman Shannon Martinez says the festivities get underway around 8 p.m. or so Friday with a performance by the band "Final Touch.'' That concert will kick off immediately after the 'Fridays On The Plaza" performance by the band "Soul X," which Martinez says probably will wrap up sometime between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Martinez says the festival resumes again Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Hispanic Festival Car Show, which will feature over 20 categories and offer awards for Best of Show for Car, Truck, Motorcycle and Bike divisions.

Entries for the car show will be allowed to move onto the plaza for the show between 8 a.m. and noon, with the trophy announcements scheduled for 4 p.m. There is an entry fee of $20 for cars that are pre-registered or $25 for those registering on the day of the show. The registration fee for bikes is $15.

Anyone wanting to enter the show should call Steve Duran at 274-5472.

Martinez says other festival activities get underway at noon Saturday, with the schedule including a jalapeno eating contest, kids games and pinatas, mariachis, dancers and much more.

She says one of the highlights of the festival will be a performance by Roberto Griego, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who is a well-known performer of traditional Hispanic music.

Greigo is slated to take the stage from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Saturday. Martinez says admission to the festival is free, but purchases of beer or food from vendors will cost money.
