Cheyenne firefighters exceeded their goal of $30,000 during their Fill the Boot campaign this Labor Day weekend.

"Right now we have an unofficial total of just over $32,000, said International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 279 Spokesman Derek Pollnow. "We're waiting for an official total from the bank and that number is usually even higher."

The IAFF has supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) for more than six decades.

"77% of all the funds that get raised by firefighters during Fill the Boot weekend go directly towards what their organization stands for, that being research development, medical treatment, appointments and specialized medical equipment," said Pollnow. "The number one thing that really helps these kids, aside from that, is their week-long summer camp that the MDA gets to send them to."

Pollnow says they would not have met their goal without the generosity of the community.

"Without the generous folks here in Cheyenne the contribution that we're able to collect and then further donate over to the MDA organization would not be possible," said Pollnow. "They were more than willing to help us out with what our campaign was."
