The Cheyenne Coats for Kids Campaign gave away 1,021 coats to local kids on Friday, according to campaign co-chair Jim Lynch.

The campaign is an annual event organized by the Cheyenne Frontier Days Public Relations Committee. Lynch says this year was unusual in that all of the available coats were given away, leaving no reserves for the rest of the school year.

Lynch says people can donate coats by dropping them off at One Hour Cleaners at 501 Randall Avenue. Monetary donations can be made at Cheyenne Frontier Days headquarters in Cheyenne. Lynch says it's not unusual for families moving to Cheyenne from a warmer climate during the winter months to need winter clothing for their kids.

Friday's coats were given to local teachers who in turn will hand out the garments to kids who need them.
