The Cheyenne Police Department is taking applications for it's next Citizen's Police Academy, according to spokesman Officer Dan Long.

He says the course will cover a wide range of topics related to police work, including such areas as criminal investigations, narcotics and crime scene processing. Long says the purpose of the course is to give educate the public about how police really function, as opposed to what they may have heard or seen on television.

Long says applicants must be at least 18 years old, agree to a background investigation, have a valid drivers license and must sign a waiver of liability. He says the course is free, but space is limited to 30 students. People can apply by emailing him at dlong@cheyennepd.org. The course is scheduled to start February 20 and will run through April 17th, 2013.
