Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says phase one of the aquatics center (formerly municipal pool) renovation project should wrap up by October 1.

The mayor says that will allow the public to begin using the pool again sometime in October, even though work on phase two will continue until next spring. Laramie County voters in 2012 approved spending $5 million in sixth penny sales tax revenues for a renovation and expansion project on the pool.

The city has since agreed to kick in an additional $1.6 million from other funding sources, including the sale of city property to the Menards retail chain.

Kaysen says even though work on phase two, which includes the pool expansion, will continue for several more months, that won't interfere with the public's use of the pool starting in October.

The pool has been closed for several weeks while work on phase one of the project continued.
