A spokeswoman for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter says the shelter is looking for volunteers for the summer months.

Nikki Rose says volunteers can be as young as 6-years-old. Rose says kids between the ages of 6-11 need to have a parent or guardian present, adding young children can do things like reading books to the animals.

She says volunteers handle all sorts of things at the CAS, including cleaning up after the animals, playing with dogs and cats, offering foster homes to pets, and a lot of other jobs, including some administrative tasks.

She says with spring kitten season looming the shelter also is in extra need of donations to handle the influx of kittens that can be expected this time of year.

People can get more details on volunteering at the shelter website, or by calling (307) 632-6655.
