UPDATE 10:44 a.m.: Interstate 80 is now closed in both directions between Point of Rocks and Rawlins due to winter weather. The westbound lane of Interstate 80 is closed all of the ways from Cheyenne to Point of Rocks. The chain law which was in effect on I-80 in southwest Wyoming has now been lifted, however.

Original Story

As of 6:30 a.m. Friday, the westbound lane of Interstate 80 in Wyoming was closed from Cheyenne to Rawlins, and a level 1 chain law was in effect between Evanston and Lyman, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation [WYDOT] website.

The eastbound lane between Rawlins and Cheyenne was open, however. A Wyoming Highway Patrol dispatcher in Cheyenne told Townsquare media that the closure between Rawlins and Creston Junction was weather-related.

She said the closure of the rest of the westbound lane between Cheyenne and Creston Junction was due to a ''rolling closure,'' which is the result of traffic piling up in that stretch of Interstate due to the closure in the Rawlins area.

The closure was expected to last until sometime between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday, according to the website.
