Campbell County Schools Asked to Study Spending Cuts

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Campbell County school principals and department heads have been asked to examine the impact of a potential 10 percent budget cut.

Administrators are considering spending cuts to avoid dipping into reserves.

They say they face a one-year lag in state reimbursement for costs at new schools, and they might want to add features or space to new schools that the state won't pay for.

Alex Ayers, associate superintendent for instructional support, told trustees that some fixed costs cannot be cut, including salaries. He says administrators want to implement cuts in a way that doesn't hurt employees or schools.

Trustee Lisa Durgin says a 10 percent cut would probably affect schools and students.

Trustee Anne Ochs says she hopes classroom technology wouldn't suffer.
