C.A.S.A. Of Laramie County: A Hand Of Hope
C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Laramie County is making us more aware of child abuse and neglect through their “A Hand of Hope” campaign. It runs throughout April, May and June, kicking off during National Child Abuse Awareness month.
Anyone can purchase a “hand” for $1.00, $ 3.00 or $5.00 as a way to support C.A.S.A. With this donation, you allow the good folks at C.A.S.A. to train volunteer advocates and recruit them to become the voice of the children…wherever they are. In the court system. In neighboring homes. In local communities.
According to Carol Tullio, Director of C.A.S.A., due to the nature of confidentiality laws, one obstacle they routinely face is that they cannot show the children who are neglected and come from abused homes. Because sometimes the most powerful message is visual.
However, they can give us local statistics with regards to children being removed from their homes in Laramie County. For instance, in 2014 alone, they have already had 26 children removed from their homes.
In regards to donations and fundraising for these children, there are those who have expressed that they would like to see as much excitement and turn out at the 2014 Fall Gala as was seen at the 2014 Fur Ball for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter. One would hope that the same passion that we saw in fundraising for animals, would be the same, if not more, for neglected and abused children.
“We do need to build awareness. We need to build it more and build it up so that people will know that this is happening in our community. We can’t turn our heads–this is happening,” Tullio said.
If you are interested in donating and purchasing a “hand” with your name on it, you may do so at Premier Rentals on Dell Range in Cheyenne Wyoming. There are other businesses in the Cheyenne area that will be hosting the purchasing of the hands to give you the chance to support C.A.S.A.’s “A Hand of Hope” donation drive.
