Wyoming will try to snap a two-game skid when they play at Fresno State Saturday night in Mountain West football. The game starts at 8:30 p.m., Mountain Time.

The Pokes are coming off a 17-13 loss at Hawai’i. While the defense played better and special teams were good, the biggest concern was Wyoming’s lack of production on offense.

To back that up, the Cowboys rank close to the bottom of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in four offensive categories. Out of 129 FBS teams, UW is 126th in scoring offense (17.5) and total offense (292.5) per game. They are also 119th in passing offense (148.2) and 115th first downs (95).

The lone bright spot has been senior running back Nico Evans. Though he missed two-and-a-half games because of injury, he’s averaging 153 yards per game. If he qualified, Evans would rank third in the country.

The offense was the focal point of Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl’s weekly press conference this week. He reflected on the loss at Hawai’i, looked to Fresno State, but talked heavily about the Pokes’ “sputtering” offense, according to Bohl, in the video above.

Trying to turn the offense around won’t be easy against the Bulldogs. They are No. 10 in the country in scoring defense, giving up just 15.6 points per game. Fresno State ranks No. 18 in the nation in total defense at 317.2 yards allowed per game. They are No. 32 in rush defense, allowing 124.4 yards per game. The Bulldogs are also tied for second in the country in turnover margin at plus-10 with 16 takeaways and only six turnovers. Fresno State allows only a 25 percent third-down conversion percentage, which ranks No. 5 in the nation. They also have 11 interceptions and four defensive touchdowns, both are tied for second.

Kick-off from Fresno, CA is at 8:30 p.m., Mountain Time. KOWB (AM 1290) will carry the game live with coverage starting at 7:30 p.m. You can also listen online or through the KOWB app. ESPNU has the TV coverage.
