Officials with the Continental Amateur Baseball Association have announced plans to hold a regional World Series in Cheyenne in August.

Steve Avila, Tournament Director for the CABA 18 and under Northwest Regional Wood Bat World Series says 16 25 player teams will each play seven games in a pool-style tournament, meaning all of the teams will play all seven games rather than being eliminated and going home.

He says the league features a high caliber of play, adding "you will see 90 mile-per- hour fastballs thrown."

He says teams will likely come from across the western United States, including California, Oregon, Washington and other western states as well as possibly from British Columbia.

Avila says the likely economic impact to Cheyenne will be close to $4 million. Avila says he bases that number on a 12 team tournament in New Mexico that has had an estimated economic impact of $3.87 million The opening ceremonies for the tournament will be held Friday, Aug. 4, with games scheduled for the week of Aug. 5-12 at Powers Field and Frontier Park.

Cheyenne Mayor Marion Orr says the games will coincide with Cheyenne's 150th Anniversary Celebration. Avila says in addition to this year, his organization would be willing to commit to Cheyenne for three five-year contracts to held series here over the next 15 years.

However, that agreement has not yet been finalized.
