ASUW Replacing Wyoming Family Statue
A new statue will adorn the center of Prexy’s Pasture. Last week the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW) voted 23-4 in favor of moving the Nuclear Family Statue and installing a Western-themed statue by Chris Navarro.
Tour the Wyoming Legislature with the Laramie Chamber
If the legislative process is a mystery to you, or if you want a chance to peek in on the action at this year’s budget session, then you’ll want to claim your seat for a legislative tour being sponsored by the Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee. A bus will leave Laramie at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 23rd and return around 4:30 p.m.
D.A.R.E. Program Dropped in Albany County Schools
The D.A.R.E. program will end in all Albany County schools at the conclusion of the current school year according to the Laramie Police Department. In a release the LPD says the termination of the program will allow an additional School Resource Officer to be assigned in the schools.
Laramie Senior Earns Top Marks in AP Math and Science
Aidan McDonald, a senior at Laramie High School, has been named a Wyoming winner of the 2011 Siemens Foundation’s Advanced Placement Awards for earning the highest math and science AP exam scores in the state, which earns him a $2,000 scholarship. McDonald shares the recognition with Keely Oltion, a senior at Sheridan High School.

Hay Donation Will Help Feed Elk in Jackson Refuge
It was “Hay Day” in Jackson as 10 tons of hay, donated by the Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife (SFW), was transported to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s South Park Wildlife Habitat Management Area on December 10th. The hay will be utilized in the department’s supplemental feeding program at the South Park elk feedground where approximately 1,000 elk are fed annually.
Laramie City Council to Award Two New Liquor Licenses
Two more retail liquor licenses are available to the City of Laramie and interested parties have started to make their case. Laramie received the licenses because of its increased population in the 2010 census. The city council could award the licenses to any of the eight parties who expressed interest during Tuesday’s work session.
Ivinson Memorial Hospital Foundation Building Hospitality House
Construction of a hospitality house for family members of Ivinson Memorial Hospital (IMH) patients is underway. The IMH Foundation reports that 26.4 percent of IMH patients came from outside Albany County in 2009 and 818 of the total 2103 patients that were discharged from IMH were from other communities. The Foundation Guest House will provide home-away-from-home accomodations out-of-town familie
