Major League Baseball’s opening day was spread out over a week and a couple continents this year, but by Friday all thirty teams will have kicked 2012 off. To celebrate the new season, Marist Poll surveyed 536 baseball fans on whether or not they would actually be attending any of the games this year. Sorry athletes, but it looks like you won’t have a huge turnout.

Fifty-three percent of fans said they don’t plan to hit the ballpark in 2012, 31 percent said they will attend the same number of games they did last year, 10 percent will go to more, and six percent will go to less.

Among all the adults, 50 percent said they follow baseball at least a little bit, whereas the other 50 percent don’t pay any attention to the sport.
