A suspect wanted by the Denver Police Department on an outstanding warrant for attempted murder and 1st degree aggravated assault with a weapon was taken into custody in Wyoming after being stopped by a Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper for speeding.

The suspect, 27 year-old Jamal Watkins, was arrested after being clocked by radar speeding 89 mph in a 75 mph zone on northbound Interstate 25 approximately 10 miles west of Douglas. During the traffic stop the Trooper discovered Watkins was wanted on a nationwide felony warrant and was informed Watkins was to be considered armed and dangerous.

The Trooper waited for backup officers to arrive from the Wyoming Highway Patrol and Converse County Sheriff's Department. Watkins was taken into custody without incident. A female passenger in the vehicle was not wanted and was not charged with any criminal activity.

Watkins was held in the Converse County Detention Center until detectives from the Denver Police Department transported Watkins back to Colorado where he faces his felony charges.
