If you make the decision to plant your homestead in the high desert, like Cheyenne, you had better be prepared for extreme cold weather. Are you ready?  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight some high points that you should consider as you prepare for extreme cold weather coming to Cheyenne.

  1. Prepare Your Car - You never know when you might get stranded in extreme cold weather, therefore you should consider stocking your car with these: blankets, snacks, water, kitty litter, and a tank of gas over half way.
  2. Have A Good Coat - Whether it's zippers or buttons with a furring liner or all three, make sure you have a nice warm coat that will help you brave the elements.
  3. Stay Hydrated - Drink lots of water. With all the heaters and dry air here in the high plains, you need to stay hydrated.
  4. Dress In Layers - You can always removed unwanted clothes, but you can't put them on if you don't have them. (Goes without saying).
  5. Don A Warm Hat - Many people prefer the hats with the "ears" on them. When it gets extremely cold, those ears can get frostbite. Ouch!

The Top 5 at 7:45 airs weekdays with me, Gary Freeman and sponsored by First Education Federal Credit Union. Stay warm.
