You may be asking yourself, "What in the world are Free-Range Kids?" Well, you're not alone, however you probably behave like a free-range parent more than you think.A "free-range kid" is defined as a commonsense approach to parenting in these over protective times. That's according to Lenore Skenazy, author of the book, "Free Range Kids: How to Raise Self-Reliant Children (Without Going Nuts with Worry)."

Free range kids and free range kids are sort of old fashioned. You probably remember when you were a kid and how you could go outside, unsupervised, for hours while checking in at a certain time.

Times have changed thanks to many laws that have been passed by Legislators across the country who are trying to protect our children from us, the parents. According to Skenazy, thanks to 24/7 cable and access to crime and missing persons, we as a society have become paranoid to the "what if's" of child rearing and our choice, as a parent, to raise them independently.

So how do we liberate our children from the suppressive environment they find themselves in today? According to Skenazy, parents can give their children guided liberties like going to a friends house, or walking home from school.

So, are you a free-range parent? Of have we succumbed to an era of hovering and over protecting in fear? Share your thoughts on this in the comments below.
