RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming legislative committee is considering tightening the state law allowing law enforcement agencies to seize vehicles and other property they believe was used in drug crimes even though the owner hasn't been convicted.

Republican State Sen. Leland Christensen of Alta is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Christensen directed Legislative Service Office staff at a Wednesday meeting in Riverton to draft bills on the issue.

Christensen wants to consider requiring the state to provide legal aid to low-income people who have to fight for their possessions and consider requiring quick review by judges when law enforcement seizes property.

Gov. Matt Mead earlier this year vetoed a bill that would have required a person to be convicted of a felony in order to lose property.
