Alcohol Possible Factor in Fatal Crash

A spokesman for the Wyoming Highway Patrol says alcohol may have been a factor in a head-on collision that took the life of a 29 year old Montana man 17 miles west of Kemmerer Monday evening.

Sergeant Steve Townsend says a Volkswagon Jetta driven by 29 year old Allen Halsted of Butte, Montana was eastbound on U.S. Highway 30 around 7:30 pm when, for unknown reasons, he drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with a Peterbuilt tractor-trailer driven by 33 year old Eric Stamour of Regis, New York.

Townsend says Halsted was killed in the head on collision, while Stamour received only minor injuries. Townsend says investigators think alcohol use by Halsted may have been a factor in the crash, but won't know for sure until results of a toxicology test are available. Stamour was cited for keeping a false log book and for an invalid Commercial Driver's License.
