Gusty winds are expected to continue in the Powder River Basin through Monday afternoon, and state officials are warning area residents of the health impacts posed by blowing dust.

The health alert, issued by the Wyoming Air Quality Division and relayed by the National Weather Service, is set to remain in effect until 6 p.m.

Wind speeds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, are predicted in the Powder River Basin today. Those winds should die down around sunset, according to the alert.

The Wyoming Air Quality Division recommends the elderly, young children and anyone with respiratory problems avoid excessive physical exertion and minimize outdoor activities while the alert remains in effect.

Although anyone meeting those criteria are the most susceptible to health impacts, the Wyoming Air Quality Division also advises that everyone should avoid prolonged exposure to the poor air quality conditions.
