What store do you miss most from Cole Shopping Center?

Over the years, a lot of stores have come and gone from Cheyenne's Cole Shopping Center, recently Safeway closed and only a few remain open. Where did you like to shop?

    Cole Safeway Store

The Safeway store in Cole Shopping Center has closed it's doors. Most of us have probably shopped there some time in the past. I even worked there filling in on the stocking crew, checking or the produce department. It had the upstairs bathrooms near the employee break room, and the manager's office had a great view of the whole store.

When it was first built, the Cole Safeway was the first to have a seafood department, deli and bakery all in one store. Now Albertson's and Safeway are owned by the same company, so they have a grocery store just to the east on Pershing. I'll miss all the friendly faces who've worked there over the years.

    Cole Square Cinemas

Remember any movies you saw at the Cole Square Cinemas? They had three movie theaters and it was nice to have an additional choice of films to go see.

At one of the last movies we went to there, a group of young girls in the parking lot must have dared each other to wear 'super hero' underwear over their pants, because all of them had these tight little pairs of kid's shorts they were wearing and they were all cracking up which just made us laugh more. Fun memories at these theaters.

    Blockbuster Video

Did you check out movies at this store? Cheyenne only has one video store left, Half Moon Video, on Carlson. But when VHS tapes were popular, Blockbuster was competing with Hollywood Video diagonally across the street. Both are now out of business as we now go up the street the the Redbox to get our movies.

This was a spacious store with a wide selection of rentals. I remember rushing to drop off all those late videos. I might still have one that's a little overdue.

    First Education FCU

The First Education Federal Credit Union began in Cole Shopping Center. My Mom worked in the school cafeteria so she was eligible at the time to join and the whole family had accounts there. (Now anyone in Laramie County can join)

I have fond memories of depositing and withdrawing money at the drive-thru here from various jobs I had. At the time, it seemed like a long drive east to get to the credit union. Later when we moved east, it seemed like a long drive to their new location west on Carlson.

    Cole Shopping Center Fabric Store

I can't remember if the name of the fabric store was Jo Anne's Fabric's or not but usually I could find anything sewing related I needed there. A lot of my memories, it seems like, I spent most of my time here wandering around looking at all the cool colors while my Mom was shopping.

This store in Cole Shopping Center also was very large and always seemed to have a lot of customers. Do you remember the fabric store?

    Dick's Bootery

I believe the Red Wing repair store was called Dick's Bootery. I didn't go in there often, but when I needed a new pair of laces for my hiking boots they had a great selection. My Dad went there to have heels and soles repaired in the past.

Are you still wearing any boots or shoes you purchased at the Red Wing dealer in Cole Shopping Center? They'll probably last you for a lot more years.

    Henry's Hamburgers

Out in the middle of the parking lot, there used to be a hamburger stand where I remember getting great food when I was a little kid. In those days, it seemed a real treat to get to go to a restaurant to pick up food for dinner.
