It's pretty interesting to hear a song and for it to remind you of a favorite summer time year. Many songs have been written about summer, to include these favorite five.  Here are 5 summer songs that made it to the top 10 on the Billboard charts spanning from the 60's to the 80's. See how many of them you know and what memories they may bring to you as you think about them.

  1. "Summer in the City" - The Lovin' Spoonful sported this big hit in the 60's. The song made it to number 1 on the Hot 100 in the year of 1966.
  2. "Boys of Summer" - Don Henley's 1984 hit made it to the top 5 on the Billboard charts. He was longing for the boys of summer to leave, so that he could regain his ex-girlfriends affection again. He also won a Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal for the song.
  3. "Saturday in the Park" - This was one of Chicago's classic songs that entertained the theater of the mind. You could see the people laughing, playing and even the man selling ice cream. The song made it to #3 on the Hot 100 in 1972. We still enjoy a nice Saturday in the park to this day, don't we?
  4. "Summer of 69'" - Bryan Adams took us back to those high school days when we hung out in the garage with "the band." Unfortunately, as has been the demise of many potential bands that started in their parents garage, folks quit and some got married. The song made it to #5 on the Hot 100 in 1985. I think as we all look back to those summers of yesteryear, they really were "the best days of our lives."
  5. "Summer Breeze" - Seals & Crofts was another group that could, not only paint a picture, but you could just about feel the ocean breeze breathing on you with this hit. Making it to #6 on the Hot 100, the song reminds me of a hot summer day with an ocean breeze every time I hear it. Since it's introduction through our radios in 1972, it's still a great summer classic.

Of course these are only 5 favorites of many, but not to mention Eddie Cochran's "Summer Time Blues", or the Beach Boys "Little Surfer Girl." What is one of your favorite songs of Summer? Tell us about it in the comments section below.
