There are things that we have done or our kids have done to our dogs that we think they enjoy, but in reality, they do not.

Here are 5 things that you thought your dog enjoys, but in essence, they don't.

  1. Hugging - As humans we like to hug and it shows affection. In the wild, hugging to a dog shows dominance. The dog also may seem challenged or threatened.
  2. Exploration - A dog hates it when you go for a walk and you don't allow them to sniff things out. This is how they "see" and learn about their surroundings.
  3. Harassing and Teasing - Teasing kids in school, could be seen as "bullying", but what about when you do this to your dog? Screaming at dogs, barking at dogs excessively and pulling on their tails is not cute, but irritating to your dog. Tell your children to stop this.
  4. Stimulation - Dogs hate it when their owners are lazy and don't get out. Dogs need the stimulation of a dog park or a walk to keep them energized and out of trouble. This also keeps the dog very happy.
  5. Patting - How would you like someone slapping you on top of your head? Well, dogs don't like it either. Dogs need their personal space and slapping or "patting" them on top of their head can do damage to them as well.
