There will come a time in our life when we either want or need a new or used car. There are a dishonest people, so it's important to think about a few things before doing so.   Here are 5 things to consider before rushing out and buying a new or used automobile. One thing is to not buy on emotion, but be an educated buyer.

  1. What's In The Budget? - What you want and what you are able to afford are two different beasts. Decide what you need or want in an automobile and then look and see what you can afford. It's always best to save up for a car and then pay cash for it.
  2. Take It To The Mechanic - If you're buying a used car, it's always a good idea to take it to your local mechanic. It doesn't matter if you're buying it from a dealership, local lot or private party. Have it checked out before you spend the money and find out you got robbed. Many mechanics will do a full check for a cost or free.
  3. ResearchBefore Buying - There are so many resources on the internet to find out what kind of car you really would like or need. Take some time and do your homework before rushing out and buying a vehicle. You may find out some things about a vehicle that you didn't know about, which may give you a better value for less cash.
  4. See The Car - It is almost a must to see the car in person before making a purchase. Be aware of fraudulent sellers on places like Craigslist.com or other sites. I'm not saying that these are not good venue's to search for a vehicle, but not everyone is honest who posts there.
  5. Get It In Writing - Before you lay any money down, ensure that whatever you were promised is realized in writing. Your case will not hold up in court by a promise and a handshake. You'll want to have something in writing.
